Polar Bear Photo Tour Churchill - Travel Day - Day One

Hello from Winnipeg, Manitoba our first stop on our journey to Churchill.

The group arrived into Winnipeg at various times today.  We have photographers on this tour from our region in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.  By 5:40 p.m. the last of the group have arrived.

The group of us that flew from London this morning, we flew London via Toronto then on to Winnipeg.  Snow was falling (just a little it was 3C) as we arrived in Winnipeg and transferred to our hotel.

At 7:00 p.m. this evening we had a welcome dinner and briefed everyone on our early start tomorrow morning.  We fly from Winnipeg to Churchill departing at 6:30 a.m.  Our flight is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.  At our briefing this evening we were told that there has been sighting each day of 35 to 50 polar bears.  We will be arriving to -6 and snow, the long range forecast for the week is for temperatures to drop to -16.

Once in Churchill we will spend the day visiting various points around the town, the Eskimo Museum then check into our hotel, have dinner and attend a slide show by local photographer Mike Marci.  It will be a good day to get a little climatized to the region before heading out onto the tundra Tuesday morning.

As for this evening things have wrapped up and everyone is heading to bed for a good nights sleep.  Wake up call is for 4:15 a.m.  That will be it for tonights posting, with more of adventure tomorrow evening, in the meantime below are a few images from our travel day.  Good Night from Winnipeg.

Our first flight this morning was from London to Toronto, then met our connection flight to Winnipeg.  Our third flight is at 6:30 a.m. Monday morning to Churchill.

I am so absolutely envious. I wish I had been able to go with you but had too many things going on here. It looks mainly like the Newfoundland group but with a few additions.
Have a wonderful time!!!!
