Newfoundland Tour Day Five June 19th, 2011

Trinity, Newfoundland and Sea of Whales Adventures

It was a beautiful day up on the Bonavista Peninsula and a great day to go whale watching.  The zodiac adventure was great and Kris from Sea of Whales Adventures did a great job showing us the coast, but not so good for whale sitings.  We did have a few sightings but nothing to close.  We were rewarded with some great seascape and bird photo opportunities and spent a considerable amount of time in a location with three Bald Eagles.  Thanks Kris for being such a great host, and all the information you shared about this great province of yours and the nature you love so much.

Because of the size of the zodiac, and our camera gear we split into two groups today, one group going out in the morning and the second group going out in the afternoon.  While each group was out on the water the other group spent time exploring the colourful little village of Trinity.  Both were rewarding adventures.

Tomorrow we will be exploring and photographing various locations on the peninsula, including dungeon national park, a couple of lighthouse locations and some of the small villages along the coast.

We have a good selection of images today, so enjoy the photos and good night from Bonaviasta, Sue, James and the Photo Trekkers.

The first group going out just after 9:00 a.m. this morning.

The next series of images are of three Bald Eagles that were having a fight over a salmon that was caught on the waters edge. You will see as you go down the images the Eagles with the fish then challenging each other as to who is going to win the fish. As they fly towards each other they grasp each others talons and plunged towards the water.  The way who lets go first looses, in this case they both hit the water.  A couple of the images are slightly blurry ... it all happened so fast.

The first group heading back up to change out of their all weather gear, these suits are warm and act as a flotation device if you were to fall into the water.  Looks more like the team getting ready for a shuttle mission.

LOL! Those boots are a Patti shot for sure! Nothing like a pair of gum rubbers to set this Maritimer's heart a flutter. Now all I need is audio of some fog horns... just sayin'

Have a good feed of fried clams for me and keep an eye out for very old lapis blue lobsters.

I like the shuttle mission crew - they are moving with a purpose (likely to get out of the suits). Enjoy! NA
