January 23, 2017 - Macaws, Mountains and Tree top bridges
This morning we departed Cano Negro and traveled via our motor coach to Monteverde to hike and photograph at the tree top Selvatura Hanging Bridges. Enroute to Monteverde we stopped in a region known to find red scarlet macaws. We were not disappointed and we were treated to many photo opportunities with the macaws. Lunch hour we arrived at the Salvatura’s Treetop Walkways, had lunch then started the 3 km trail that crosses through the cloud forest. We walked through eight different bridges varying in lengths from 150 ft to 510 feet and heights from 36 feet to 180 feet about the rain forest. It was a great experience to literally walk across the tree tops. We will in the Monteverde region for the next two days. Enjoy todays selection of photographs.
These Scarlet Macaws were happy to pose for us.
The longer we spent with them the more animated they became.
This hybrid mcaw flew from the tree top over our heads.

I'm ready for my close-up.
Costa Rica is know for it’s ox carts they are painted in colourful patterns.
As we approached the Monteverde district the clear mountain top views were amazing.

The views from the swinging bridges were amazing. 1 down 8 to go!
High above the bridges zip liners were going by. That’s on tomorrows schedule.
This gives you an idea of how high you are above the forest. Zip liners travel up to 55 km as they go by.
The forest also lends up beautiful and coluorful flowers.
Many unique greenery and berries too.
This gives you an idea of what the trails look like.

Some of the bridges required a few steps to get higher above the forest.

Time to take the last bridge and head to our lodge for some downtime and dinner.
That’s a wrap on todays blog and our first day in Monteverde. More photos as we walk the floor of the cloud forest and zip lining adventure tomorrow. Good night from all the trekkers in Costa Rica.
