Guatemala Blog January 18th, 2016
Well, it feels good to be caught back up on the blog. This morning we flew from Flores back down to Guatemala city and then departed for the highlands. Full of lakes active volcanos and Iximche another Mayan ruin. Iximche was the capital of Cakchiquel Maya and was surrounded by a 9 foot deep moat.
While here we attended a Mayan prayer ceremony, then traveled to our hotel at Posada de Don Rodrigo Panajachel. Enjoy todays photos.
6:00 a.m. sunrise photos.
Our flight back to Guatemala City, we had the plane to ourselves.
Some of the many lakes in the jungle district.
As we flew past one of the active volcanos. You can see the smoke coming from the top of the one on the right.
An intense chess game at the entrance of Inimche today.
A view of the ball court, this was an ancient two man on either team sport.
A view of the court, it is said that the winning captain of a match was then sacrifice.
The sun temple.
Attending a Mayan prayer ceremony. Each coloured candle reprents an element.
Then it is set on fire and the priest offers up a prayer.
The priest interprets the flames and tells you what they say to him.
The priest explaining to Paul the results of his prayer.
Dick and Janice by the entrance of where we had lunch.
As we approached Panajachel this afternoon.
These are called Chicken Busses and I will explain more in a future post. Ever wonder where all our old Blue Bird and Thomas Built School buses end up. As I said more to come.
This is a very large hillside burial ground.
It is very colourful.
Check out the fresh vegetables headed to market. Those carrots are quite the size!
Our rooms in Panajachel face out to a beautiful lakeside view.

Street vendor.
Another beautiful sunset this evening.
Amazing clouds and colour tonight. Now time for dinner.
That’s it for todays and as I said glad to be caught up with the blog. Good night from all the Trekkers in highlands of Guatemala.
