Thursday November 5th, 2015 - Trek to Machu Picchu
Today we began our trek to Machu Picchu. Midday we took the train from Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu Village. It was a great ride through the valley to the lower level of the ruins. Here in Machu Picchu we are actually at a lower elevation than in Sacred Valley. We have dropped from 11,200 feet to 8,500 feet. We enjoyed the afternoon exploring the village and a fun evening and dinner with the group. We are up at 6:30 a.m. to travel the rest of the way up to the ancient ruins.
Here are a few images from todays travels.
This little girl was sitting outside a shop this morning
Some of the group gave this little girl a few gifts they brought from home and she poised with them
Electrical work in front of the Inka ruins we visited yesterday
Onboard our train headed towards Machu Picchu
A river that follows the train tracks
If you hike the Inka trail this is where you start ... it takes 4 days to reach the ruins
The streets are very narrow and the train runs up through the centre
This shows you how close the trains come to the hotels, cafes and shops
Heavy clouds in the mountains today
The central part of the village
This is the main river that flows through the valley, the big rocks slow the water during heavy rains
Very low clouds in the valley this afternoon
All the supplies for the village come in by rail
Need any bottled water ...,
This guy was all dressed up for dinner?????

That's it for this evening. Tomorrow we depart for an early trip up to Machu Picchu, good night from all the trekkers here in Peru.
