Sedona Tour Day Five April 18th, 2011

April 18, 2011

Another fun day of interesting places and photography.  We started our day by driving to the east gate to a location called Desert View.  Here we had opportunity to capture images of the Grand Canyon with great views of the Colorado River.  We also visited the famous Desert View Watch Tower which was designed and built in the 1930’s by the female architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter.  We were able to climb the tower for many different vantage point views of the Canyon and surrounding region.

On our way back to our lodge for lunch we stopped at another vantage point for shots of the canyon only to be treated to an oversized white rabbit posing for photographs.  This rabbit was actually a costume worn by a young chap by the name of Mike from New York.  Mike and his buddies are holidaying in this region and have had him put on the costume and pose at all the different scenic locations they have visited.  We were just in the right place at the right time.  There won’t be many shots to be found in the Grand Canyon like this.  Thanks Mike for being a good sport and posing.

After lunch we headed back out this time to Kaibab Trail, this is on of two hiking trails that take you to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.  We took the trail part way into the canyon to get a different perspective of the canyon for our photography.  We passed many hikers going up and down, including a mule train returning to the rim.  The wind was very strong here this afternoon and made for a few challenges but was great for moving the clouds for photographs.

This evening we met at 5:30 p.m. and took our coach over to Bright Angel Lodge, were we did sunset photos.  Some of the group hiked some of the Bright Angel Trail, the other trail that takes you to the base of the canyon.  Here they found interesting locations to set up for sunset.  It was a quick sunset as the clouds were still moving quickly and there was not much colour, but the scenery was spectacular.  We finished the evening by visiting a pizzeria near the lodge for supper and social time.

Tomorrow we depart at 8:00 a.m. for our next location, Antelope Canyon in Page, Arizona.  Everyone is looking forward to our two days at the Canyon and the Page region.  We are staying at a desert resort area, which will also be good for photography.

That’s it for this evening’s report from Grand Canyon.  Check out some of the images from todays shoot.  Dave and James.
