September 27th 2014 Florence, Italy
We have now arrived in Florence, Italy and will be spending the next few days exploring and photographing in this beautiful city. Florence is the epicentre of art and culture in the Tuscany region. Home to many beautiful churches, museums and other interesting architecture.
Our first day in Florence we did a morning walking tour along the river, visited the oldest bridge in Italy, Ponte Vecchio, which is now a gold market and the square where the Statue of David is located and a few of the many interesting churches. In the evening we had dinner on the mountain overlooking florence and then did some night photography of the city.
Enjoy the selection of images from our first day in Florence, Italy.
This first image was shot at the Basilica of Santa Croce or the Basilica of the Holy Cross. Michaelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, Foscolo, Gentile and Rossini are all buried here

Besides the centre being the gold markets, people live on the bridge

The archways leading up to the bridge
The square leading into the Statue of David
One of the many interesting pieces of art as you enter the square
The Statue of David, located in front of the old Florence City Hall
Notice the detail in his hands.
David’s hands are quite large. When Michaelangelo originally designed the sculptor it was going to high above the square. The hands were made larger to be seen in the proper perspective from a height.
Everywhere you turn interesting fresco’s on the buildings and churches
