August 31st, 2016 - Haines Junction & the Yukon Landscape
Today we headed west along the Alaska Highway to Haines Junction. The weather continues to give us the opportunity of capturing the rich fall colours of wet leaves.
Arriving in Haines Junction we spent time at the Da Ku Cultural Centre. The centre celebrates the culture and traditions of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations people. It is an interpretive facility that provides programs both for its native people and the general public. Also housed in the centre are the Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor Centre and a Yukon Government Visitor Information Centre.
We travelled about an hour north of Haines Junction to the Tachal Dhal visitor centre located at the southern tip of Kluane Lake. This small visitor centre provides opportunities to learn about Dall sheep and the surrounding area. It is at the base of a large cliff where Dall sheep are often seen. Today the Dall sheep count was 182. Although a long way off for photography, it was exciting to see these marvelous animals in their natural habitat.

We’ll end tonight’s blog with a view from our hotel. The clouds are finally starting to break up; we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
Tomorrow we head south of Haines Junction before returning to Whitehorse.
Good night from all the Photo Tour Trekkers in Haines Junction.
