September 3, 2016 - Alaska Trek on the White Pass & Yukon Railway
This morning we boarded our motor coach at the White Pass Depot in Whitehorse for a trip along the scenic South Klondike Highway to Fraser, BC, where we connected with the world famous narrow gauge White Pass & Yukon Route Railway (WP&YR).
Built in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush, this narrow gauge railroad is an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, a designation shared with the Panama Canal, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.
From Fraser, we descended almost 900 metres (3000 feet) in the 45 KM (28 miles) between Fraser and Skagway.
In Skagway, we had about two hours to photograph this unique and historic town. Skagway was the starting point for thousands of men heading to Dawson City during the Klondike Gold Rush. It's home to many gold-rush-era buildings, now preserved as part of the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
Enjoy our last day in the Yukon photos including a couple of Northern Lights shots captured late last night.

It was a good day to visit Skagway as there was only one cruise ship in port.

After the return bus trip to Whitehorse, we enjoyed our farewell dinner as the clouds finally disappeared at sunset. Some of the group made one last attempt to capture the Aurora and with success our trip is complete. Tomorrow afternoon we begin our journey home.
