Iceland Photo Tour - Borgarnes back to Reykjavik  - June 22nd, 2012

Tonight we are back in Reykjavik after completing our road trip circle of Iceland, and what an amazing week it has been.

We visited another series of waterfalls today, then wrapped up our road trip by visiting Thingvellir.  The Thingvellir region is important as in 930 is were the people of Iceland established parliament and the site of a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid Atlantic Ridge.  The continental drift is very evident between the North American and Eurasian Plates, this often causes measurable earthquakes in this region.

Once we got checked into our hotel, there was time to enjoy the city and visit places of interest.  Then tonight we enjoyed our farewell dinner at a local eating establishment called “Harry’s”.  It was a great dinner.

Tomorrow we have some additional free time prior to departing to the airport at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon.  We should be arriving back into Toronto by 6:55 p.m. our flight is approximately 5 hours and 50 minutes.

We hope you have enjoyed following the daily blog as much as we have all enjoyed sharing the beauty of Iceland with you.

Good Night from all the Trekkers in Reykjavik and enjoy the images from today.

On tonights map you can see in yellow the distance we travelled today.

It is easy see the contantial divide in this region.

That’s it for this evening, Good Night from Reykjavik.  Tomorrow morning some of the group are doing some optional whale watching while others relax or explore a little of the city.  Later in the afternoon we depart for the airport returning home.  There was a suggestion that we stay longer and do the circle the other way this time.  I’m ok with that as this is a beautiful country full of many photo opportunities and very friendly people.  Thank you Iceland for being so hospitable to the Trekkers, and thanks to all the photographers that joined me on our journey.

I'll admit, this is the first trip that I've not taken where I've actaully read each and every word of the blog. Enjoyed it all.

Bre (aka the flower girl) ... and I loved the image of the dandilions - go figure.

It looks like another very successful photo adventure. I even saw some Ice in some images. Not as many as I expected but quality over quantity! James you didn't name the new mascot? are you a little horse? hoarse? Some very beautiful pics of some amazing locations. Lots of very unique landscapes. Welcome home to all the lucky Trekkers.

Another great trip, I always enjoy following along. This is one place I thought I really was not interested in seeing, until now. This is just been added to my bucket list!
