Costa Rica Blog Day 7 February 13th, 2019
From our base at the Montaña Monteverde Lodge, nature opportunities were everywhere to be found. The town of Monteverde is a much higher altitude than Cano Negro, and the town has a peaceful eco-friendly vibe.
After a hardy Costa Rican style breakfast we headed out for the Selvatura Hanging Bridges reserve. The park features a 3km trail that crosses through the cloud forest.
If visiting a “Cloud Forest” you would hope for a misty, rainy feel, and the weather and park didn’t disappoint. The hanging bridges are between 150 and 500 feet in length and as much as 180 feet above the forest. The misty morning, was great for photos as we slowly walked the trails and bridges. The unique perspective from below and above the forest provides some great shots. Howler monkeys, tropical plants, insects, snakes, and of course birds were plentiful.
At the end of our hike we had a great lunch on site and then explored the Humming Bird gardens and Butterfly conservatory. The numbers of hummingbirds flying within inches or our heads was staggering. The experience was breath-taking as many of us had to sit down not to be overwhelmed by the flying flurry of activity to the feeders and flowers all around us.
After a long day filled with many great images we decided to make a special addition to the Itinerary. It didn’t take long to discover Host Dave, Local Guide Minor and driver Javier all really “enjoy” ice-cream. So off course we went to a long-standing local dairy, and Ice Cream factory. Of course they sell delicious flavours on-site. And we tried them all!
Dinner in Monteverde at the family owned and run Mar & Tierra Restaurante was a fantastic experience that just topped off a great day.
Each day we will add to the links below as we update the blog.
