Step back in time to the year 1812, as British troops attempt to expel American invaders. Hear the crack of the musket and the roar of the cannon. Come and experience life in the early 19th century. See the colourful clothing, smell the food prepared over open fires, and experience the foot soldiers’ camp. That’s right, the troops will be setting up camp and spending the weekend with us at Fall Foto Fest.
This will be a great photo addition to our weekend event. We will host morning workshops using the re-enactors as our backdrop and then, mid morning you’ll have the opportunity to photograph the action during their mock battle. Each day one choose from one of six hands on workshops with our instructors. Workshops listed below.
1 - Use of Fill Flash and Reflectors 2 - Telling the Story 3 - Attention to Detail / Depth of Field 4 - Getting Up Close 5 - Perspectives and Angles 6 - Composing a Portrait and Posing. We will be working with the actors at the 1812 Camp. Selection of these workshops during registration.
Bonus Saturday Night: Available Light Workshop at 1812 Camp We are pleased to offer a Saturday Night Workshop at the 1812 Camp. The re-enactors’ camp is an authentic 1812 set-up, complete with camp fires and candles. A great opportunity to try available light imagery. Join us for the FFF dinner Saturday night, then head out for an evening of night photography.

Fall Foto Fest event dinner at Renegades Diner: Saturday evening we will be hosting a dinner of event registrants. The cost of the dinner is $25.00 including tip and HST. Our dinner includes: BBQ roasted chicken, roasted pork loin, vegetarian lasagna, rice, thyme & garlic roasted potatoes, peas and carrots. Assorted salads, dinner rolls and butter. Assorted desserts, tea, coffee and soda fountain drinks. You can book the dinner when registering for Fall Foto Fest.

The cost of the event is $55.00 for one day or $85.00 for two days plus HST. High school/ college/university, full-time students, the fee is $35.00 for one day or $55.00 for two days plus HST.

Below is a list of our Bayfield Fall Foto Fest 2019 Workshops ... if you are attending one day please select two workshop, if you are attending for both days you may select four workshops. Those attending Saturday or both days may also choose to select our bonus Saturday night workshop at The Royal Scots 1812 camp. - Studio Photography / Easy Portraits:
We are pleased to feature Lambton College’s Digital Photography Department Director, Richard Beland add in the help of a few 1812 re-enactors in costume and you will be learning lighting and posing techniques. This is a hands-on workshop offering plenty of photo opportunities. Richard will show you art of positioning the lighting to achieve dramatic results.
- Photo Composition 2.0
This workshop will help you understand the art of composing a photograph. Join photographer Elizebeth Hunt as you explore the art of composition. This will be a combined in class and outdoor workshop building your understanding of your camera, its settings and how it ties into composure of your image.
- The Art of Cell Phone Photography
It’s 2019 and the smartphone has changed our lives, texting, emails, and it even takes great photos! Phone/camera technology, amazing apps and great quality lenses, the smart phone is one step closer to the camera we use all the time. This workshop will show you how to turn your phone into one of the best cameras you have ever had. Join photographer and Photo Tour Trekkers host Harry Cartner as you explore the art of cell phone photography. Type of smartphone - does not matter, iPhone or Android.
- Incredible Indoor Macro Photo Projects
Come explore the world up close. This workshop will help you build those skills. We will be working on the following topics, Smoke Photography, Splash Photography, Water Drops, Fine Art Food, Abstracts in Oil, Still Life Trails, and Refractive Art. Close-up or macro lens recommended. Join Photo Tour Trekkers Photography Host Alayne Brisson for this great workshop.
- Water Garden and Flowers Workshop
If you enjoy photographing water gardens and flowers this is great workshop for you. Join Photo Tour Trekkers photographer Leif Petersen as he helps you see flower photography in a different light. During this workshop the group will be visiting a water garden and gardens in Bayfield.
Join director, producer and photographer Brad Turner as he teaches our master class on creating videos. Learn from one of the best as Brad takes you into the world of video and how to create a production from any experience. Brad will take you outside and help you create a video short using our 1812 camp and re-enactors as the backdrop and subject. Every digital camera has a video option and with a few tips you will be producing quality videos fit for any presentation.
Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom has now become the mainstay for working with digital images. During our 3 hour master class you will work on post-processing, retouching and artistic techniques. We also spend time post processing some of the images you shot during our 1812 re-enactment. This is an advanced workshop and you will need to come to class with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom loaded and working on your computer. Join Director of Photo Tour Trekkers James Cowie as he guides you through the world of Photoshop and Lightroom.
