Washington DC Photo Tour:
Welcome to the United States Capital ... Washington D.C. We are very excited to offer the many photo opportunities this beautiful and historic city has to offer. From her stately government buildings to her colonial history to the modern, Washington has it all for photographers and we will spend three days in the city during our tour.
We will be staying just across the Potomac River in Arlington, only 10 minutes from the White House and the historical district of the city. During our visit we have selected times to visit the historical monuments when the light is in our favour. We will have several night photo shoots during our visit and opportunities to photograph fall colours.
On this tour we will be departing from the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel on Wellington Road in London. We will be offering departures from Woodstock, as we will be crossing into Buffalo.
Day One: Thursday 26th September, 2013: Depart London 8:00 a.m. and travel via luxury motor coach to Washington DC. Our coach is equipped with a washroom, but we will be making comfort stops, coffee and lunch breaks during our journey. We will arrive into Washington at our hotel at approximately 6:45 p.m. During our visit we will be staying at the Arlington Holiday Inn just over the Potomac river about 10 minutes from 1600 Pensilvania Avenue, ... the White House. Once we check in time to relax and dinner.
Day Two: Friday 27th September 2013 : (Breakfast at the Arlington Hotel included with package) We will begin our first day in Washington DC with a visit to some of the DC City landmarks. We are able to take our motor coach to the majority of our locations so this will make moving around the city and taking our camera gear very easy during our photo trek.
Our morning starts at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue the home of the American President. Since being selected by George Washington in 1791 has been the home of the President. We will then move on to photograph near the Washington Monument, the Capital Building and Library of Congress.
We will stop for lunch close to the Old Post Office. We will start our afternoon by having a photo shoot inside the Old Post Office followed by going up the Post Office clock tower for some aerial shots of the capital region. There is a beautiful view of the Capital Building from the top of the tower.
We will wrap up this afternoon by visiting and photographing the Lincoln Memorial, offering up many interesting architectural opportunities, then we will swing by the Ford Theatre as we head back to our hotel.
We will return to our hotel for some free time followed by dinner, then this evening head out for our first night photo shoot at the Jefferson Memorial. The reflections of the river and the beautifully lit memorial structure offers up many great time exposures. We will spend time working with ideas and techniques to capture better night images while on location.
Day Three: Saturday 28th September, 2013: (Breakfast at the Arlington included with package) We will start today with a morning visit and photo shoot at the Arlington Cemetery. Arlington National Cemetery performs 27 to 30 funeral services each day. The grounds of the Arlington National Cemetery honour those who have served. The rolling green hills are beautifully surrounded and dotted with trees that are hundreds of years in age and complement the gardens and monuments found throughout the 624 acres of the cemetery. We will visit many significant locations within the cemetery including the Tomb of John F Kennedy, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Memorial Amphitheater and the Arlington Cemetery Welcome Centre. We have made arrangements with the official service of the cemetery for a shuttled tour. Our visit will be for approximately 3 1/2 hours.
After lunch we will visit Union Station another great location offering up many photographic opportunities, then on to the Smithsonian Institution main building or also know as “The Castle”. We will have some time to explore this amazing facility.
Later this afternoon we return to our hotel to freshen up, have dinner and some time to relax. Then this evening will be our second DC evening shoot at the Capital Building and the Lincoln Memorial.
Day Four: Sunday 29th September, 2013, (Breakfast at the Arlington included with package) This morning the group will visit the Pentagon 911 Memorial this beautiful park and structure are located next to the Pentagon and is in memorial to those who lost their lives on 9/11 at this location. We will also visit the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park where a group of 19 stone soldiers depict an army patrol, all in a beautiful garden and park setting.
We will have an early lunch then add a little landscape into our DC and Virginia visit by holding an afternoon photo shoot at the Great Falls Park in Virginia. At Great Falls, the Potomac River builds up speed and force as it falls over a series of steep, jagged rocks and flows through the narrow Mather gorge. The width of the falls is greater than it height. It is the speed of the cascading water that is amazing to capture. The 800 acres of the park offers up may beautiful landscapes and historic virginian homesteads located on the grounds are also open for visiting and photography.
We will time our return towards Washington to have sunset opportunities with the Nationals Capital as our backdrop.
This evening after some time to freshen up we will depart for our farewell dinner at the Duca Di Peppo Italian Restaurant in Washington DC. This famous restaurant is well know for the interesting decor and cuisine. This will be a great way to wrap up our Washington experience.
Day Five: Monday 30th September, ’13: (Breakfast at the Arlington Hotel included with package) We will check out of our hotel, board our motor coach and begin our journey home from Washington DC. We should reach London by 7:00 p.m. again taking into account time for comfort stops and lunch.
