Galapagos Islands - Day 5 Island of Genovesa
We woke up this morning to thousands of birds flying overhead which means we are anchored on the Island of Genovesa. The north most Island in the Galapagos and home to the Red Footed Boobie. Genovesa is the only island that man never settled or spent anytime on, this is due to the fact of no fresh water. Bad for early sailors but good for the wildlife on the island as no outside species were ever introduced, thus the thousands of birds. We took the zodiacs this morning and climbed Prince Phillips steps to the upper cliffs of the island. We spent the morning exploring and photographing the nesting areas of the Red Footed and Nazca Boobies. Babies and birds in flight made for a great morning of photography. After lunch we did a wet landing on the beach for more time to photograph the birds and wildlife. We wrapped up the day with an opportunity to do some snorkeling off the beach. Tonight after dinner we will set sail for Baltra, crossing the equator again overnight. Below is the link to the gallery of todays photos.
