Guatemala Blog January 20th, 2016
Another beautiful morning here in Guatemala ... we said good-bye to Lake Atitlan and started our journey to Antigua. The drive was great very little traffic and we reached the city just after 1:00 p.m. We visited the white cross look out to capture a few panoramic photos of Antigua. Then headed to our hotel for check-in and lunch. After lunch we set out on a walking tour to enjoy some of the regions of Antigua, including a few churches and the daily market and visit the chicken bus station.
Fuego Volcano is also very active right now and offered up some great photo opportunities today. One of the best views of the volcano is from our hotel’s terrace. Enjoy todays selection of images.

As we walked into the market around 4:00 p.m. this is what the sky looked like.

These are chicken buses. Refurbished school buses used to transport locals from city to city and village to village. The buses are purchased, refurbished and resold. Interesting to note most of the owner drivers prefer the Blue Bird Bus that is made in Brantford.
Each bus is colour coded to the region and villages they will be visiting. This is done because quite a few of the locals don’t read.
A proud driver by his bus.
Chicken buses as far as your eye can see ... note anything goes
A busy market.
Plenty of fruit.

As the sun begins to set the volcano lights up the sky.
As the sun went down you could see the flames.
A very active volcano.
One last volcano shot.
Our group farewell dinner this evening.
That’s it for this evening. Tomorrow we have most of the day in Antigua then an overnight flight via Mexico City back home.
