Iceland Photo Tour - Tuesday July 9th, 2013

What a beautiful Icelandic day, we had sunshine and mixed skies as we traveled.
We started our morning by visiting Fjadrargljufur . After a short hike up into the country side we were rewarded with a beautiful view on the glacial out flows and the century old pillars of rock that looked like something out of Lord of the Rings country side.
We then visited one of the off shoot glaciers from Iceland’s largest glacial field, Svinafellsjokull. This was the same location visited June of 2012 with a Photo Trekkers group. Amazing how much the landscape has changed in one year.
After lunch we visited Jokulsarlon lake, and took a boat ride out into the ice flows. It was beautiful to sail around them and see how each side of the ice looked. We were told that what you see above water is only 9% of the total mass of the iceberg. One of iceberg guides fished a chunk of ice out of the water and explained the melting process and that this ice would be approximately 1,000 years old. After the demonstration he used an ice chisel and broke up the block so everyone you taste the pure ice. So that’s what a millennium tastes like ...
It was a long day as we departed our hotel at 8:00 a.m. to take advantage of the light we had today. So everyone was glad to be at our location for this evening on the east coast of the island called Djuplvogur in Berufjorour Fjord. We are staying in this beautiful old country homestead complete with it’s own church, view of the fjords and ocean inlet.
