Ireland Photo Tour
Tuesday August 27th, 2013
We headed south east out of Belfast and towards the coast this morning. Our first stop was in the quiet town of Grey Abbey, where we visited the ruins of the Abbey. The light and clouds were perfect to create some interesting images with the centuries old cemetery in the foreground. We then went inside the old Abbey ruins for more photography and to learn about it’s history.
Our next photo shoot was more just an opportunity to say we were there. It was a visit to Downs Cathedral were St. Patrick himself is buried. We also took some time to take some photos inside the church. While inside, Dave met one of the local ladies just out for an afternoon with some her friends, her name is Rita, and she is 90 years-old. She’s a charming lady and we met up with her again when we went out to Inch Abbey just on the outskirts of Downpatrick.
Final photo shoot today was at Inch Abbey. It was founded by John de Courcy in atonement for his destruction of Erenagah Abbey. The buildings are mainly from the 12th and 13th centuries while it is believed the church is older than that at Grey Abbey which was built about 1193.
That’s it for this evenings update, everyone is getting ready to meet for dinner. We are now in the Dundalk region and will be here for two evenings. Tomorrow we will be holding a photo shoot at Roche Castle and then visiting the medieval town of Carlingford. Good night from county Louth, Ireland.
