Sunday May 21st, 2017 - The Hague and Scheveningen
Today we visited the Hague and Scheveningen. The Hague is the seat of government in the Netherlands and steeped with history and more interesting architecture. After lunch we visited Scheveningen a seaside resort near the Hague. Being the weekend it was full of locals and tourists enjoying its beach and the beautiful sand dunes.
Tomorrow we will visit the Delta Expo. The southwest of the Netherlands is one region that has suffered over the centuries of continuous changes due to the influence of the sea and human intervention. For several years many projects have been developed to secure the from floods. The catastrophic floods of 1953 were responsible for the acceleration of the Delta Plan, it is perhaps the biggest hydraulic engineering project ever executed in the world. At Delta-Expo we will be witness to this work.
Enjoy todays selection of photos from The Hague and Scheveningen.
The streets of The Hague early this morning, not to many people around at this hour and great for taking photographs.
Delivery bikes ready to start the day.
This bakery was called Bad Cup Cakes!
Early morning coffee in B&W.
A shop on one of the streets asks visitors to leave coins and then they glue them to the street to share with others that pass by.
Many street cafe's near the parliament buildings.
A colourful bike.
This little guy was having fun running around the empty streets.
Many interesting statues as we walked the streets. I think the chap on the right looks like former US president Jimmy Carter.
Another interesting and colourful statue.
Even the architecture is full of colour.
One of many beautiful canals that run through out the city.
An interesting statue at the mouth of one of the canals.
Another canal full of reflections. Parking is very close to the edge.
Morning cruise up the canal.
Fun on a morning walk.
Jette doing some pole dancing Netherlands style. The pole is covered with crochet wool colours. A month back was national wool month and in honour quite a few poles were wool bombed for the occasion.
Then on to Scheveningen.
These horses were close to where we parked the coach. Fancy a ride on the beach?
Very skinny rail system.
Kite flying on the beach today.
Michelle and a VW hubcap.
One of a couple of musical groups on the boardwalk today.
Up-close ...
Plenty of places for the kids to play.
Plenty of places for the adults to relax.
A sailboat just of the pier.
This final shot of the day gives you an idea of the number of people that visit this beach resort town.
That's a wrap on todays photos. Tomorrow we visit the Delta expo as we approach the final days of our Netherlands tour. Good night from Holland.
