July 20th, 2017 - We have arrived in Tibet and a visit to Potala Palace
We are now in Tibet ... we arrived at 10:30 am this morning after having to be diverted and had to over night in Chengdu, China. This morning was clear and we were able to fly through the narrow mountain pass and into Tibet. A great welcome and we started photographing and exploring.
We spent a good part of the afternoon visiting Potala Palace the former home of the Dali Lama. It was a great experience but the first task was climbing all the stairs to get to the top. We took our time as we are also at 12,000 feet. It was worth the walk. We visited the many prayer rooms of the monastery, the greeting hall of the Dali Lama and the many tombs of past Dali Lamas. Many monks were going about their daily routine as we explored the palace.
This evening we enjoyed a dinner and cultural show with traditional Tibet music and dancing.
Tomorrow we will travel to Depung Monastery and surrounding region for landscape photography. The monastery was established near Lhasa in 1416 by Chojey Tashi Palden. The Second Dalai Lama made his residence here in 1494.
