Galapagos Islands Blog Day 1 and 2 in Quito
We arrived shortly after midnight and traveled to our hotel in the heart of Quito. For the next two days, we toured various parts of the city including the botanical gardens and taking the cable car up an additional 1890 feet for a birds-eye view of the city and surrounding mountain volcanoes.
On day one we walked to the botanical gardens, we enjoyed both the gardens and the surrounding park. This is currently an Ecuador time of celebration so lots of music, dance party trucks, lights, and colour. So a very interesting time to visit the city. The first evening we had our welcome dinner at Miskay in Joaquin Pinto quarter. This is a great please for the group to be introduced to many foods of Ecuador and yes including guinea pig! A fun night including a birthday celebration for Yvonne one of our photographer guests.
Day two as we continued to explore Quito we took the cable car to the top of the surrounding mountains for a bird's eye view of the city. You travel from 3117 m to 3945 m for a spectacular view. During our visit, we were able to watch the mountain bike races which start at the top and end at the base by the cable car entrance. I’m sure it would be a very interesting ride. A mid-afternoon market visits then back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner. This evening we had another great dinner at Achiote another great family run restaurant in Quito. Thank you, chef Lucy for a spectacular eating experience.
Tomorrow we depart for the airport early in the morning for our flight to the Galapagos Island to board our private ship for the island and sea journey of our photography adventure.
