Israel Blog - Capermaum, Munt Bental & Hula Valley Cranes
Sunday October 27th, 2019

Today we visited the Sea of Galilee region, our first stop Capernaum. The town of Jesus and remains of the ancient Synagogue. This village is on the northern side of Sea of Galilee, and was the centre of the activities of Jesus and his town during that time. A grand 4th century Ad Synagogue was excavated, which stood over the Synagogue from the time of Jesus. We visited the Church of the Beatitudes. The church is located on a small hill overlooking the Sea of Galilee, the traditional "mount" on which Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount and performed the miracle of feeding the crowd with 5000 with five loaves and two fish. After lunch continued to the Golan Heights to a lookout on Syria from Mount Bental where from the observation point 3 borders (Lebanon, Israel and Syria) are seen. The Six-Day War began with a preemptive Israeli air assault in Egypt and Syria. An Israeli ground offensive was also launched in the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank. These territories were all captured by Israel, though the Sinai Peninsula was later returned to Egypt. Our last stop of the day was the Hula Valley to see the migrating grey cranes and they return to roost for the night. What an amazing sight to see. Tomorrow we carry on to the Dead Sea. Enjoy todays photos and good night from Israel.
