Our last day in Churchill and out on the tundra and we were rewarded with another great day of polar bear sightings and photography.
We had a mother bear and her coy (cub of a year) mature bears and sparing bears. The bears' spar as they prepare to head back out on the ice once the bay freezes over. This is how they get in shape for the long and harsh winter on the ice.
It was an amazing day and bittersweet as this was the last tour for our Churchill guide, Steve. Steve, you are the best and will not only be missed when Trekkers returns to Churchill next year but by all the friends you’ve made in Churchill over the many years. Your knowledge of the bears, region, and passion for wildlife will never be forgotten.
This is also a very exciting week for Churchill, after almost one and a half years the first train rolled into Churchill around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. We are very happy for the folk that calls Churchill home as this will make a big difference on the cost of goods. Also on Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Churchill to make announcements of additional government funding for the region and renewed investment in the port and rail.
We now fly back to Winnipeg and overnight before returning east the following day. Please click on the gallery link to see the images from our final day on the tundra. Thanks for following the blog our next blog and tour is the Galapagos Islands which departs November 30th, 2018.
Enjoy the photos of the bears.
