Scotland Bog - Glasgow to Linlithgow
We had a 11:30 p.m. departure from Toronto flying 6 hours 30 minutes arriving in Glasgow at 11:15 a.m. Monday.
We drove from Glasgow to Linlithgow, the birth place of Mary Queen of Scotts. After a great pub lunch we spent time photographing Linlithgow Palace and the adjacent St. Michael's Church which dates back to the 16th century. The beautiful stained glass windows and vaulted ceilings are steeped with history. The shell of Linlithgow Palace overlooks the loch by the same name.
Later this afternoon we travelled thought the Trossachs mountain range for our first night in Aberfoyle. Dinner and a much needed rest after a long travel day. Tomorrow morning a cruise on Loch Lomond, then we start heading further north towards Fort William. Enjoy a few images from our first day. Have you ever herd of the crocked man that lived in the crocked house that walked a crocked mile. This cottage was on the way to the palace.
Gates to the palace and St. Michael's Church
St. Katherine's Isle within the church. It is said King James IV in 1513 praying here was warned by an apparition not to go to war with the English. He ignored it and most of the Scottish army were killed in the battle of Flodden Field. This stain glass was created in 1992.
Beautiful angel statue at the front of the church.
The Queen's coat of arms, this is where she would sit when attending services. Bill Hall's mother and grandmother used to sit in the pew beside it circa 1940's.

The palace overlooking the loch. The archway used to be the main entrance and had a draw bridge. Mary Queen of Scot's was also imprisoned here.
